1st Southwest BJJ Classic

The 1st Southwest BJJ Classic took place in Mesa, AZ on October 11th and 12th. Nova Uniao was well represented by Nova Uniao Schools from Arizona and Las Vegas. Gracie Mag was there to cover nearly 400 competitors in action.

Team GD Jiu-Jitsu (N.U. AZ Headquarters) took 1st place overall in the Adult Division, with 25 Teams competing for the highest spot on the podium. GD Jiu-Jitsu had 98 points over the second place winners. The standout of the team was David Margraf, who won the Blue Belt/Adult/Ultra Heavy and Open Weight Divisions.

Team ISMA (N.U. Chandler) had 17 medals. The standout was Josh Rodriguez, who won the White Belt/Adult/Feather Weight Division.

Representing Nova Uniao Las Vegas, twin brothers Christian and Christopher Broadnax dominated the Blue Belt Juvenile Division. Both brothers won their weight division, and met up in the Finals of the Open Weight. Instead of bowing out to each other, the brothers decided to battle it out for 1st, with Christian coming out the Champion.

Prescott BJJ (N.U. Prescott) had 6 medals. The standout of the Team was Daniel Hampton, who won the Blue Belt/Adult/Middle Weight Division.

One of the newest N.U. Schools, Nava BJJ (Mesa), had one medal. Andrew Blatnick took 3rd place at the White Belt/Senior 1/Heavy Weight Division.
