“Ze Cobra” at the 2009 No-Gi Pan American Championships

Professor Josef “Ze Cobra” Manuel had an incredible performance on the mats of the 2009 No-Gi Pan American Championships of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In his first match, He submitted Saul Alencar (ATT) who was highly favored to win the Black Belt super feather weight division, with a triangle choke from the mounted position after racking up 10 points on the score board. Professor Josef advanced to the semi finals and met head on with 2006/2007 Pan American Champion Joseph Capizzi. Professor Josef pulled guard and landed a 2 point sweep to put him ahead on the score card. Capizzi did a good job of warding off his guard passes with Professor Josef accumulating advantages for the aggression. Professor Josef won against Capizzi as the time ran out with the score of 2 – 0. Professor Josef manuel advanced to the finals to face Brandon Mullins (WS-MMA) who got a buy to the finals & in a very technical match Brandon scored points as he managed to pop his head out of some very tight guillotine chokes, with the match ending with the score 4-0. Brandon Mullins winning gold & Professor Josef taking silver. All in all a great day for Team Robson Mora Nova Uniao BJJ NJ as our Chief Instructor solidifies his spot amongst the best as one of the top grapplers in the US.
