Nova Uniao Jiu-Jitsu USA was well represented at the 2010 IBJJF European Open Championships held in Lisbon Portugal 1/28-31/2010.

Members from two Academies made the trip to compete at the first of 2010’s most prestigious IBJJF Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. New Jersey’s Professor Josef “Ze Cobra” Manuel and pupil Fernando “Ferocious” Ferreira Represented team Robson Moura & from Arkansa’s Revolution MMA, Professor Jory Malone & World Class Brown Belt Competitor Abby Malone also made the trip.

Professor Josef “Ze Cobra” Manuel of Cutting Edge Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Team Robson Moura) won Gold in the Master Light Feather Weight Division. In the finals match he defeated Brandon Mullins, vindicating his lost to Mullins in the finals of the 2009 Pan Ams. Josef is Master Robson Moura’s first American Black Belt.

Fernando “Ferocious” Ferreira, a student of Josef Manuel competed in the Juvenile Blue Belt Division, where he won Bronze in the Pluma Weight Class.

Brown Belt Competitor Abby Malone from Revolution MMA competed in the Women’s Absolute division and brought home a Bronze Medal in the Brown/Black Belt category. Abby trains under Professor Jory Malone. Prior to this competition, she and Professor Jory Malone Hosted 3x World Champion & Nova Unaio Black Belt, Marcelo “Pato” Pereira for a training camp and the incredible instruction and hard training paid off.

Jory Malone, Head Professor at Revolution MMA competed in the Adult Men’s Heavy Weight Division. He had an impressive fight against 8x World Champion Fabio Gurgel of Alliance, but lost in the final minute of the match. A great experience for Professor Jory Malone, win or lose testing himself on the battle fields of competition for his student & Academy. Overall it was a great competition and Nova Uniao USA was well represented. Go Nova Uniao!
