Nova Uniao AZ at the U.S. Nationals

The U.S. BJJ Nationals took place in Carson, California on September 12 and 13. The event promoted by the USBJJF brought in 900 competitors from all over the country. With only 28 competitors, Nova Uniao Arizona/GD Jiu-Jitsu was able to win 18 medals, placing 4th place overall with 10 Gold,1 Silver and 7 bronze.


The Standouts of our Team were: Sarah Black, who won her weight class, and the open division. Sarah had 6 matches, winning 5 by submission. Issa Able and David Margraf submitted all their opponents to win the Blue/Feather and Blue/Ultra Heavy Adult Division.

The U.S. No-Gi Nationals took place in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 26th. Our Team took 3rd place overall, despite the fact that we had only 7 competitors, who were able to get 10 medals! Check out the results:

Kristina Barlaan – 1st place – Feather and 1st place – Open Division (Female/Blue/Purple Belt)

Issa Able – 1st place – Light and 2nd place – Open Division (Adult/Blue Belt)

Ryan Heilman – 2nd place – Feather and 3rd place – Open Division (Adult/Purple  Belt)

Steve Rosenberg – 3rd place – Middle (Adult/Black Belt)

John Cordera – 3rd place – Feather (Adult/Purple)
